The internal configuration differs between the two — compressor housing orientation and certain trim specifications. They cannot be interchanged freely. The part number on the turbo nameplate is the only reliable way to determine which one you need.

Where the HE551V fits in the ISX turbo lineup

The CM870 platform used the HE551V. Later CM871 engines moved to the HE561VE. Even later CM2250/CM2350 engines use the HE451VE, and the newest X15 (CM2350A/CM2450) uses the HE400VG. Check your CM platform number first, then match by turbo part number.

Installation

  • Ships with pneumatic VGT actuator and gaskets. This is a large, heavy turbo — use a hoist.
  • Connect the boost reference hose to the actuator canister.
  • Flush oil feed line. Replace oil drain gasket.
  • Prime with clean oil, idle 3-5 minutes before loading.
  • Verify VGT vane movement responds to boost changes.
