FAQ

The HE561VE (3767615) fits the Cummins ISX and ISX07 on the CM871 platform, 2005-2013. It also fits some Volvo trucks with the ISX07 engine. OEM numbers include 4045034, 4955425, 2838153, 4042413, 4309076, 2881997, and 5350893.

No. The HE551V (2881993/2881994) is for the earlier CM870 platform. The HE561VE is for the CM871. Different turbos for different ISX generations. Check your CM platform number.

No. This is the turbo assembly only. Reuse your existing actuator if functional and run ECM calibration. Contact us if you need both components.

The CM871 runs high EGR rates that push soot into the VGT mechanism. Incomplete DPF regens make it worse. The vane ring sticks, triggering derate codes. Always check the EGR and DPF system when replacing the turbo — upstream problems will destroy a new turbo quickly.

Brand new, 100% new components, dynamically balanced. No core charge. One-year unlimited-mileage warranty.

Yes. US stock, volume pricing for shops, fleets, and distributors.

HE561VE for Cummins ISX CM871: The Second-Gen EGR ISX Turbo

The CM871 platform replaced the CM870 around 2005 and ran through 2013. The HE561VE is the VGT turbo for this generation. Many ISX trucks on the road today still run the CM871, making the HE561VE one of the most commonly replaced ISX turbos.

VGT issues on the CM871 ISX

The CM871 generation was notorious for VGT problems. The HE561VE runs in a high-soot EGR environment, and the vane ring tends to stick more frequently than on later platforms. Many CM871 truck owners and fleets have dealt with repeated VGT derate codes. When replacing, always inspect the EGR cooler and DPF system — upstream soot problems will kill a new turbo just as fast as the old one.

Common failure modes

  • Vane ring sticking — the most common failure on the CM871 HE561VE. Soot jams the vanes in one position. Derate codes, poor throttle response, or overboosting.
  • Actuator failure — electronic actuator motor or gear failure. Diagnose separately from the turbo body.
  • Bearing wear — shaft play at 300k-500k miles. Oil past seals, rising EGT.

Installation

  • This listing does not include the electronic actuator. Reuse your existing actuator if functional, run ECM calibration after install.
  • This is a large turbo. Use a hoist during installation.
  • Replace exhaust manifold and oil drain gaskets (included).
  • Flush oil feed line. Prime turbo before startup.
  • Idle 3-5 minutes. Verify VGT tracking via ECM.
